So, that's what your granma paid for

And so, this afternoon, me and my classmate were shadowing the family physician like usual for the clinc attachment.

And we found ourselves in a cosy Chinese restaurant. There were really tasty prawns. And sharks fin soup (actually, we had 2 bowls each as the table was only half-occupied). And fish. And chicken. And while the service was not very professional. the food was great.

And it was all paid for.

By the pharmaceutical companies. Who are all too eager to sell your granma her medications at a tidy profit, and then use the profits to fill the doctors' stomachs and lure them into prescribing even more, so that these companies become filthy rich.

So now you know, while your granma is scrimping to pay for her medications for her diabetes and high blood pressure, a tidy sum goes to the pharm companies. Large enough for them to lavish the doctors with sharks' fin and high-grade stationery. So that the doctors would prescribe even more.

So guess why medical costs are sky high? No, your doctor isn't getting such a tidy cut of the profit. The pharm companies are.

Lots of stuff that should be called bribery aren't. This is one of them. Another of them is called "political fund raising"
